Chunsheng Wang Wins 2021 ECS Battery Division Research Award 


Chunsheng Wang, a chemical engineering professor and director of the University of Maryland (UMD) Center for Research in Extreme Batteries (CREB), has been named the winner of the 2021 Battery Division Research Award offered by the Electrochemical Society (ECS).

"I am honored to receive this prestigious award, and am deeply appreciative of the strong support from my colleagues,” said Wang. “I look forward to offering more contributions to the field.”

Wang, named one of the Top 10 Battery Researchers to watch last year by Research Interfaces, has focused his research on rechargeable batteries, fuel cells, applied electrochemistry, and nanostructured materials, to name a few. His studies have been featured in top-tier journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Energy, Nature Materials and Nature Nanotechnology as of late. Moreover, Wang and his post-doc, Chongyin Yang, won the UMD 2021 Invention of the Year Award for their work on a safe, water-based, lithium-ion battery.

The Battery Division Research Award, established in 1958, encourages excellence in battery and fuel cell research and encourages publication in ECS journals. The award recognizes recent contributions to the field with potential impact on future research and development. The prize consists of a scroll, a $2,000 prize and Battery Division membership for as long as the recipient maintains Society membership.
